It's all about me....

Why me?

I have a new-found respect for our colleagues from Marketing. I've worked with many Branding teams over the years. Identifying and launching brands that will attract business is not as easy as good Marketeers often make it look.

To launch myself into Recruitment, I had to create a brand that would be strong and show why people should use my services. I consulted as many ex-colleagues and friends as I could on several concepts that I developed. The outcome was one that filled me with dread...…. I was encouraged to make myself my "brand".

For those of you who know me, making myself a "brand" probably surprised you as much as it did me. With the exception of playing rugby in my younger years where being a scrum half required a great deal of verbose visibility or gobbiness as my team mates would probably call it, I am much happier quietly organising and getting on with things.

So why am I the brand? Well it all comes down to what I am selling. I am not an experienced Recruitment Consultant who is going solo and building their new brand around former clients with the promise of less big corporate machinery. I am not a highly driven Sales Person who has years of door opening experience and I am not a serial entrepreneur who has the talent and resources to build companies from scratch. What I am is a highly experienced IT team builder. Essentially, I am selling myself and the knowledge I gained during my years of building great IT Teams.

Like creating great Marketing Brands, getting the right mix in teams is never easy. It takes experience and knowledge to see the real talent, it is never just about what candidates say they have done. Sourcing candidates is not an issue and is not the exclusive domain of the big agencies. Subscription services such as CV databases and job boards together with an extensive network take care of that. However, what I sell is the ability not just to source candidates, but to establish what they have actually done and how they will fit in the roles I am searching for. That skill and experience cannot be bought, it can only be earned.

So, there you are, I haven't had an ego transplant. Des Scanlan IT Recruitment is the brand purely because I am selling my ability to cut to the real experience and talent that will serve you well in any of your IT Team building or resourcing challenges. Give me a go and see how the quality of the CVs you receive will improve.
